The new Vista Single location lighting system owes its unique high output beam of soft light to a special lamp and reflector design. Kino Flo has married its hi-lumen 96 Watt lamp with an intensifying, parabolic reflector that produces a Soft Beam twice as bright as the Kino Flo 4ft Single System.
The Vista Single combines this efficient output (first used in our ParaBeams and VistaBeams) with fixture, lamp and electronic ballast design features much like those that won Kino Flo an Academy Award for technical achievement for its modular designs.

The first thing to note about the Vista Single System is that it consists of four components:
Vista Single Fixture (fig. 1), Mounting Plate (fig. 2), Ballast (fig. 3) and Extension Cable (fig. 4). It was designed in this manner to allow the greatest flexibility when working on film production where the gaffer and DP are constantly being challenged to light unique locations and problem solve at a moment's notice.

The Vista Single is twice as bright as our 4ft Single and uses less than 2 Amps of power. As with other Kino Flo’s modular designs, the Vista Single is portable, lightweight weighing only at 6 lbs. Its slender feature delivers ample light for tight spaces. Its remote ballast is high-output and flicker-free at any camera speed operating at 25kHz.

The Vista Single Fixture

- Fixture Shell
- Lamp Harness
- Reflector
- Louver, Black Honeycomb 90°
The Vista Single fixture houses the lamp and includes a removable 90° Honeycomb Louver, Reflector and
Lamp Harness. The Louver and Reflector are held in place with Velcro fasteners.
|
|
|
| |
| |
Fixture can be used in several configurations:
Vista Single Complete Fixture Vista Single Harness w/ Reflector Vista Single Harness only
- Complete fixture with all components combined
- “Harness + Reflector” – The wiring harness is removed and used with the reflector. The reflector gives more punch and direction to the light.
- “Harness Only” – The wiring harness is removed from the fixture so that user can build a softbox, hide behind Plexiglass or rig into tight locations.
- Can use Honeycomb Louver to give direction to the light or remove louver to give broad coverage over an area.
The fixture can take a variety of lamps. They can be used as a daylight source by using Kino Flo KF55 lamps or
a tungsten source using Kino Flo KF32 lamps. Visual effects for blue and green screen are available as well.

Fixture Assembly/Disassembly

To remove harness from plastic fixture, pull the retractable locking pin on the fixture.
Slide the harness base away from harness alignment pins.

The reflector is held in place with Velcro fasteners. To remove the reflector, lift up from the lamp base side.
To re-attach the reflector to the lamp harness, first insert the narrow indent of the reflector under the lamp clip.
|
|
|
| |
Inserting Lamp

Insert lamp at a 45° angle and align pins with lamp holder. Press lamp securely into lamp clip and snap the locking clip in place.

Vista Single Louver

Vista Single Louver
The Vista Single Fixture includes a 90° Honeycomb Louver (LVR-V190). The Kino Flo specially designed metal foil Honeycomb Louver controls and focuses the light which narrows the light spread with minimal light loss. It is also available in 60°.

Mounting Fixture

One of the design features that makes the Vista Single so versatile is the twist-on removable
Center Mount
(MTP-BL41S). When it’s on, the fixture mounts easily to a light stand. When it’s off, the fixture is flat and can be hand-held or hidden in a space too small to place a stand-mounting fixture. The grommet holes along the edge of the fixture are designed to allow the fixture to be screwed to a wall or ceiling. When the mount is removed, the fixture has a flat surface so that it can be screwed to the wall through its eyelets.

Mounting Harness

Vista Single Harness w/ Reflector Vista Single Harness Mount
Another feature of the Vista Single is the versatility of the Harness. It can operate outside the fixture shell.
Just like the fixture housing, the harness has a center mating plate and accepts the same twist-on mount plate.

Mounted on Surface Mounted on Surface
The harness can also be mounted by locating the two rigging holes located along the central axis of the lamp holder which can be used to screw the fixture to a surface. The lamp holder base can also be screwed onto a surface.

The Vista Single Ballast

BAL-125-120
Kino Flo developed its own Vista Single ballast that can run the fixture head remotely. Unlike conventional architectural ballasts that need to operate three to six feet from the fixture head, Kino Flo fixtures can be operated with the attached 18" tail and the 25ft extension cable.
The Kino Flo Vista Single ballast is a high output, high frequency electronic ballast that can operate one lamp.
The ballast sends a high output current to the lamp to drive the light as brightly as possible. Its high frequency electronics prevent any type of flicker as well. A special heat-sink design and custom electronic engineering ensure stable operation without magnetic hum or cooling fans to interfere with the sound recording on the set. |

Vista Single Ballast Controls View
Controls View
There is no delay when switching lamps. The ballast operates the lights on/off instantly. There is also a special Select switch designated as HO/Std (High Output/Standard Output) to raise or drop the wattage in the tubes
for light output and color control. Keeping the ballast remote from the fixture and lamps makes the controls more accessible to lighting crews who might need to rig the fixtures into set designs or high up in a lighting grid,
but switch them easily from a convenient location on the stage floor.
The Kino Flo Vista Single Ballast accomplishes all this and still out-performs tungsten lighting instruments 10 to 1 when it comes to energy efficiency. In other words, the Vista Single uses 1/10th as much power to produce the same amount of soft light as incandescents. The Vista Single ballast works reliably under most normal conditions, but it’s also trustworthy in more harsh conditions, such as extreme cold: The Vista Single ballast is designed to operate at temperatures from 14F to 122F (-10C to +50C).
In extremely cold temperatures, the ballast may not strike the lamp initially because the lamp may need to warm up. Switch the ballast to Off, wait seven seconds and try again. If the ballast does not strike after two or three attempts, turn off the ballast, check that the extension and harness connections are secure and re-strike. Once operating for a few minutes, the lamp should re-strike instantly.

The Kino Flo Lamps

The Vista Single lamps use new high-output 96 Watt T7 Twin tubes. Operating on a proprietary new flicker-free ballast, the 34 inch (86cm) T7 lamp produces more lumens per watt than any other high-output True Match lamp. T7’s come in True Match KF32 (3200K) tungsten balanced, KF55 (5500) daylight balanced, and visual effects colors: a 420nm blue and a 550nm green lamp for blue and green screen composite photography.
