FreeStyle 4 LED

Kino Flo® Lighting Systems’ True Match® FreeStyle LED tubes are specially designed for operation in FreeStyle T44 fixtures for film production or stage design lighting. The FreeStyle LED tubes display Kino Flo’s True Match white light and RGBWW color management system found in Kino Flo’s LED lighting fixtures. The tubes are 4ft (1.2m). On camera, FreeStyle LED tubes photograph with the same softness, the same subtle color reproduction as Kino Flo’s award-winning T12 high-output lamps. In addition to the >95 photo rendering index, cinematographers will see the difference the 310° LED tube makes when operated in a fixture or out of the fixture as a remote “sabre” of light. Paired with the FreeStyle T44 fixture’s light intensifying reflector, the tube projects soft light forward at a 100° beam angle at about the same light levels you’d get from a 1000W tungsten softlight

The White menu features Dimming, tunable Kelvin range from 2700K tungsten to 6500K daylight and Green/Magenta
control channels. The Green/Magenta control can be scaled from 0- to 100, where 25 = ¼ correction, 50 = ½ correction and
100 = full correction.

In the Gels/Hue menu, the Kelvin range is extended to 2500K Kelvin to 9900K daylight and a fourth channel is called Gel.
The Gel channel includes Kino Flo presets such as blue & green screen, sodium vapor, mercury vapor as well as over 100 well-known lighting gels. The gel function can be applied to any Kelvin temperature and by pushing the control knob in/out, the gel will be applied
or removed. A fifth channel called Hue Angle (Hue) and sixth channel Saturation (Sat) are also included in the gel menu. These two channels behave similar to a traditional color wheel, where white light is in the center and Hue Angle determines the color along a
360-degree range and Saturation determines how much color is applied. With the Hue Angle and Saturation it is possible to create over
2 million color combinations!

The RGB color menu gives individual control of red, green and blue LED’s. The RGB mode is a great way to work with apps with predetermined RGB presets or color wheels. RGB menu is also a great feature to dial in specific gel RGB values or when controlling colors from a DMX desk.

The FX (Effects) menu introduced on June 1, 2018 provides access to popular effects such as Candle, Fire, TV, Police, Lightning, Paparazzi, Pulse and Scroll. When on the desired effect, there are several pre-sets as well as control parameters that can be altered.
For example, in the Lightning effect there is a “Storm” and “Frankenstein” preset, but it is possible to change Rate to provide additional variation.

FreeStyle LED System

The FreeStyle T44 LED System (SYS-F484U) consists of:  FreeStyle T44 LED Fixture plus 4 x FS-48 LED Tubes (fig. 1),
Mounting Plate (fig. 2), FreeStyle 140X LED DMX Controller (fig.3), and Extension Cable (fig.4).

It was designed in this manner to allow the greatest flexibility in lighting solutions for challenging situations.

  The FreeStyle T44 Fixture

The FreeStyle T44 Fixture houses the tubes and is comprised of built-in barndoors, a Louver, Reflector, and tube Harness.
The Louver and Reflector are held in place with Velcro fasteners. There is a strain relief on the tube Harness to ensure the connectors
don’t pull off the lamps during operation. To get the harness away from the fixture, turn the ¼ turn fastener and rotate counter-clockwise to release.

FreeStyle T44 Fixture can be used in several configurations:

1) Complete fixture with all components combined.
2) "Harness Only" - The wiring harness is removed from the fixture so that the user can build a softbox, hide behind Plexiglass or rig into
tight locations. The wiring harness uses Kino Flo designed Tube connectors so tubes can be operated independently of the fixture.
3) Can use Louver to give direction to the light or remove louver to give broad coverage over an area, such as lighting blue and
    green screens etc.

Kino Flo tubes can operate inside the fixture or independently with only the wiring harness.

The FreeStyle Reflector (REF-F484) has a a unique design to accomodate the aluminum channel on the back of the FreeStyle tube. It provides even light distribution and maximizes light output. In addition, it acts as a heatsink and allows the FreeStyle Tubes to run cooler.

  Mounting

One of the design features that makes the fixture so popular is the twist-on removable Center Mount. When it's on, the fixture mounts easily to a light stand; when it's off, the fixture is flat and can be hand-held, or hidden in a space too small to place a stand-mounting fixture. When the mount is removed, the grommet holes along the edge of the fixture are designed to allow the fixture to be screwed
to a wall or ceiling through its eyelets.

The standard mount comes with a KinoGrip Mount w/ 3/8" Pin (MTP-KG41) that clips into a grip head. The ball and socket mount allows the fixture to be oriented in a broad range of angles.

There is also a Baby Receiver version and Baby Receiver Short (16mm) (see below) available as accessories. The yellow wire loops are there to provide attachment points for a safety chain.

Besides the plastic louvers, another light control option is a Flozier available in full and half f-stop. The Flozier attaches to the barndoors and can be adjusted to various configurations.

                                 DFS-4804

Honeycomb Louver – The spread of the light is controlled by means of a thin wall honeycomb louver.  The advantage of this louver is the minimal loss of light.

The FreeStyle LED fixtures include a 90° louver (LVR-K490-P).
It is lightweight and is held to the fixture with Velcro fasteners.

Cases

The metal valence ship case (KAS-FS484) is recommended for transport by sea or air.  The ship case holds two FreeStyle T44 LED systems.

The telescoping cases are recommended for location transport in small vehicles or local production trucks. The cases hold five FreeStyle T44 LED Fixtures (KAS-54L) or three FreeStyle T44 LED fixtures (KAS-54S).

The soft case (BAG-401) is made out of lightweight fabric material.  It has room for one FreeStyle LED System, medium duty stand and an additional louver.

FreeStyle LED Advantages

Energy Efficiency

The FreeStyle T44 LED DMX operates on universal AC power or battery power and needs only 1.25A at 120VAC or 6.25A at 24VDC.
The FreeStyle LED’s cost savings from low energy and long LED life continues Kino Flo’s reputation as an environmentally friendly lighting company.

Long LED Life

LED’s are well known as being energy efficient, lasting for thousands of hours.  While Kino Flo’s FreeStyle LED also has a long LED life,
the FreeStyle LED’s unique design will maintain its color-correct color temperature.

True Match® Color-Correct

As with all Kino Flo products, the FreeStyle LED has been specially formulated to match the spectral distribution curves of today’s HD film and video equipment.  The FreeStyle LED has a high color rendering index of CRI 95.  Even while dimming, the fixture is flicker-free and without color shift.

Heat Management Design

For Kino Flo, heat management is a critical design element of fixture design.  The physical heat or buildup heat within the LED fixture will directly influence the color temperature, lumen performance and life of an LED.

The FreeStyle LED’s unique design operates coolly, consumes very low energy (1.25A, 120VAC) and is properly ventilated to maintain a stable color temperature.

A well maintained temperature extends the lumen maintenance, color temperature and life of an LED.

Cost Savings

Cost savings cover a broad range of concerns:

  • Lower energy costs
  • Less heat so lower air conditioning expenses

Energy Savings Calculations

With the push for reducing fossil fuel consumption, TV studios are looking at cooler more efficient lighting systems to reduce the costs and save energy.  Part of this process involves generating energy values to determine savings.  One of the most important values is Btu/kWh.

British Thermal Units per Kilowatt Hour

Any light generates a percentage of usable light and the rest in heat.  For example, a standard incandescent light bulb converts only 11 percent of its electrical input into visible light, while the rest is dissipated directly as heat.  There are energy costs involved in cooling the studio environment.  The measure of Btu/kWh is a means of calculating the thermal loads related to operating lighting.

Use the following information to calculate Btu/kWh Watts to Btu:

1 kWh = 3413 Btu/Hr
1 Watt = 3.413 Btu/Hr

3.413 Btu per Watt-hour
